International Patient Unit (IPD)

A unit in the hospital whose task is to coordinate the necessary services for providing diagnostic and treatment services to foreign patients.

Medical or Health tourism is a trip that is made to another country for the purpose of treatment. The reasons for this type of tourism are the absence of similar treatment methods, high costs, and the lack of advanced medical technologies in the country of origin. On the other hand, due to the appropriate medical tariffs in Iran compared to other countries in the region and the provision of medical and nursing services with international quality, a large number of patients are willing to travel to Iran for treatment. This has made the country one of the centers of medical tourism in the region.

The International Patient Department (IPD) at the hospital is staffed by a team of experienced and qualified professionals who are fluent in international languages. The department is available 24 hours a day to provide healthcare services to international patients.

In Aftab Eye Hospital, the doctor in the International Patient Department (IPD) is responsible for overseeing all medical services related to an inpatient patient. Therefore, in order to provide faster and better services to patients admitted through the IPD, services are also provided outside of the regular schedule. The hospital attracts foreign patients through various advertising methods, the most important of which is advertising the type and quality of services provided in this hospital. In this regard, attending important domestic and international events in the field of medical tourism, including participating in congresses and many exhibitions held in the country, is on the agenda of the IPD unit.

The presence of resident translators who are fluent in Arabic, English, Kurdish, and Turkish in this center has been able to facilitate the stay of patients from the moment of their arrival in the country until their discharge from the hospital in such a way that no communication gap is created in this regard.

The senior IPD specialist is responsible for coordinating the arrival of international patients to the hospital and has direct supervision over all medical care for the patient. In this regard, in order to shorten the path of service provision, the presence of a welcoming nurse in the lobby and the presence of a VIP/CIP specialist in the hospital has been able to create effective levers for this department.

Daily visits by the IPD doctor to all international patients at the hospital and a team of experienced and specialized doctors in this field are one of the pillars of patient trust in the Aftab Eye Hospital. By the way, it is possible to communicate with the IPD doctor and the relevant surgeon in person or virtually after discharge (follow-up).

Providing an invoice in English and Arabic, along with a Medical Report, at the time of discharge, has created peace of mind for patients to continue treatment in their home country or another center.

The hospital’s inpatient sections are equipped with internationally approved visual and written media according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. A welcoming stand with patient-friendly language, the presence of the national flag, a culturally oriented menu in Arabic/English, the provision of international cuisine, and the option to convert foreign currencies to Iranian currency (Rial) are among the significant measures implemented in the hospital.

In order to reduce the accommodation and travel concerns of patients and their companions, Aftab Eye Hospital has established partnerships with various hotels in a variety of levels of service and hospitality, provides assistance with obtaining or renewing visas, books travel arrangements in all forms of air, land, and sea transportation, and offers sightseeing tours of sightseeing of Tehran. In addition, the hospital provides the option of having a specially trained medical team accompany patients from the airport to the hospital and back, depending on the patient’s condition and preference.

In this regard, conducting daily surveys of international patients using various techniques (international questionnaire, in-person interview, or email to the hospital) and taking corrective measures within a maximum of 12 hours have been effective in clarifying and enlightening patients’ rights.

Required documents for admission of international patients:

• Carrying the passport to the hospital for admission and identification of international patients.
